The year 2012 marked the birth of CABK, with the selection trials for the inaugural T20 World Cup for the Blind. Among the hopefuls at Thevara College Ground in Ernakulam, Maneesh A emerged as Kerala’s pride in the Indian team.

Sponsorship and Grand Inauguration (2012-2013):

Sponsorship, notably from the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), fortified CABK’s foundation. KCA’s financial backing and technical expertise, under the guidance of Mr. TC Mathew and Mr. Jayesh George, set CABK’s journey on a solid path. Lucknow Tournament and Team Unveiling:

The Kerala blind cricket team was introduced for the Lucknow tournament, signaling their readiness to test their skills. With Maneesh leading as captain and Ajesh as vice-captain, the team boasted notable players including Manoj, Vishnu, Jineesh, and more. The team was primed for practice early February, with departure scheduled for Luknow on the 8th.

Inaugural All Kerala T20 Tournament:

A historic moment arrived in May as CABK organized its inaugural All Kerala T20 cricket tournament. Held at Thripunithura, the competition featured ten teams, divided into two groups. Emerging from the league rounds, Glorious Vision and Rainbow Stars Kasargod contested the final, with Glorious Vision clinching victory. This event also marked the introduction of the 36-member Kerala selection camp squad.

Selection Camps and Training Sessions:

September witnessed the selection camp for the Kerala cricket team, culminating in the unveiling of the 14-member squad. Gratitude was extended to the authorities of Kerala Varma College for their support during the camp. Come November, intensive practice sessions were conducted for Kerala’s cricket team at Sreekrishnapuram and Thiruvalla Marthoma College ground, enhancing both skills and camaraderie.

South Zone Tournament and School Cricket:

CABK’s involvement in regional contests continued with the South Zone tournament at Karakonam Medical College ground. The event was inaugurated by IPL’s notable presence, Sanju V Samson. With participation from six teams, Andhra Pradesh secured the title, while Kerala claimed the runner-up position in the league round. Expanding its efforts, CABK organized the inaugural all Kerala cricket tournaments for visually impaired students at Govt. Boy’s School ground in Kunnamkulam.

The 2nd All Kerala Cricket Tournament for the Blind, orchestrated by CABK, spanned from April 15th to May 15th. Cementing its global imprint, CABK also furnished players for the India Australia Series, held in Bangalore.

Pioneering strides were undertaken in 2014, as CABK introduced live score updates on its website during the Kerala vs. Tamil Nadu Bilateral Series. The year culminated in India’s resounding victory over Pakistan in the 4th Blind Cricket One Day World Cup, hosted in South Africa. Spanning from April 29th to May 17th, 2015, this tournament was inaugurated at Nehru Stadium, Kottayam, by Malayalam Script Writer Vipin Chandran. CABK extended its influence by participating in the South Zone Cricket Tournament, held in Bangalore from October 29th to 31st. Competing among six state teams, including Karnataka, Kerala showcased its mettle, aiming to secure a berth in the forthcoming National cricket tournament scheduled in Delhi.

Unveiling the Historic Asia Cup for the Blind:

A monumental highlight emerged as the year unfolded—the unveiling of the logo for the pioneering blind cricket T20 Asia Cup. This event witnessed the gracious presence of Padmasree Bharat Dr. Mammootty, who unveiled the logo. Held at Kochi’s Le Meridien International, the ceremony united dignitaries, corporate representatives, and cricket enthusiasts, showcasing their united support.

The inauguration, graced by dignitaries including Chief Minister Shri Ommen Chandy, marked a historic beginning. The league matches were charged with emotion, unpredictability, and dramatic turns. The partnership with Radio Mango and Amrita TV played a pivotal role in media coverage, enhancing the intensity of the league matches. As the league concluded on January 22, the finalists emerged: India versus Pakistan.

After a day of respite, the grand finale loomed. India chose to bat first, setting an imposing target of 208 runs for Pakistan. CABK spearheaded a transformative initiative, hosting the Workshop on Empowerment of Visually Challenged Girls Through Sports on August 12, 2017, at Hotel Le Meridien Kochi. As the sole association in Kerala promoting cricket for the blind, CABK extended its commitment to empower visually challenged girls. The Palace Oval Ground Thrippunithura Kochi witnessed Kerala’s blind cricket players showcasing their skills. KFB Golden Jubilee Cricket Tournament: A Commemorative Extravaganza

To honor the 50th anniversary of Kerala Federation of the Blind (KFB), CABK orchestrated the KFB Golden Jubilee Cup 2017. The tournament, held from December 28 to 30 at NIT-C Ground Kozhikode, featured 9 teams affiliated with CABK. February 2018 witnessed Kerala’s blind cricket team showcasing their prowess at the Inter-State Cricket Tournament in Mohali. Taking place at Aluva Blind School ground from April 17 to April 28, 2018, the camp aimed to elevate the skills of academy members. Under the tutelage of Venkitesh, a current Indian Blind Cricket team player, the camp aimed to elevate the players’ cricketing prowess.

The 6th Edition: All Kerala Cricket Tournament

From April 29 to May 3, 2018, CABK orchestrated the grand 6th edition of the All Kerala Cricket Tournament for the Blind. Held in Perinthalmanna, the tournament’s inauguration was graced by the presence of Deepak Malik, a prominent Indian blind cricket team player. Blind cricketers from across Kerala converged, showcasing their exceptional talent and unwavering passion for the sport.

Flood Relief: A Heartfelt Compassion

Amidst CABK’s relentless pursuit of cricketing glory, 2018 bore witness to their compassionate soul. During the devastating Kerala floods, CABK extended a helping hand, donating to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Welfare Fund by returning the Grand received. Held at the Aluva Blind School ground on January 5th and 6th, the event encompassed various activities including exercises, training sessions, medical check-ups, cultural programs, and quizzes, all designed to nurture and identify young talent.

7th Edition of All Kerala Tournament for the Blind

Expanding on the triumph of six consecutive state tournaments, CABK unveiled the 7th edition of the All Kerala Cricket Tournament for the Blind on May 1st and 2nd, 2019, in Kochi. This tournament united eight teams, comprising a total of 16 participants, for a series of matches hosted at Palace Oval ground and Pooja Cricket ground Tripunithura.

Empowering Women in Cricket: Women’s Cricket Training for the Blind

CABK embarked on an impactful initiative by empowering visually impaired girls to partake in cricket. A three-day training camp held from May 17th to 19th, 2019, at Aluva Blind School Ground saw the participation of six girls. Sulaja Ponnappan, a familiar face in Kerala’s women’s cricket, assumed the role of coach, with the aim of laying the foundation for a Kerala women’s cricket team.

Promotion and Publicity: Showcasing Blind Cricket

CABK’s endeavors to promote blind cricket gained momentum in 2019. Leveraging professional consultancies, the organization utilized media, social media, and campus promotions to raise awareness. Through Facebook pages, YouTube live streams, banners, and hoardings, CABK effectively spotlighted the sport, even engaging sighted students in blind cricket activities.

Strengthening the Team: Kerala Karnataka Bilateral Series

In a bid to bolster the team’s capabilities, CABK organized a bilateral series against Karnataka. Taking place on October 12th and 13th, 2019, at KCA Stadium Perinthalmanna, the series received support from the Muthoot Pappachan Group. Women’s Cricket Thriving: Kerala and Karnataka Women’s Bilateral Series

To foster CABK’s commitment to women’s cricket, they orchestrated a bilateral series between Kerala and Karnataka women’s teams from November 30th to December 1st, 2019. This series acted as a preparation ground for the National Women’s Cricket Tournament for the Blind, held in Delhi from December 16th to 18th, 2019.

A Star Rises: Vishnu B’s Selection to India Team

Kerala’s Vishnu B ascended to prominence with his inclusion in the Indian blind cricket team for the India-Nepal bilateral series commencing from December 2nd, 2019. Vishnu’s exceptional performance in the Nagesh Trophy league matches played a pivotal role in his selection.

Continuing their mission to empower women in cricket, CABK arranged a cricket training camp for the Kerala Women’s Cricket Team. Held on January 18th and 19th, 2020, at Aluva Blind School Ground, the camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from 16 talented women athletes. These training sessions served as a valuable opportunity for skill enhancement and overall development.

Quarter-Final Clash: Kerala vs. Karnataka:

CABK’s teams demonstrated their competitive spirit in a high-stakes quarter-final match against Karnataka. The Kerala Team arrived in Bangalore early in the morning and engaged in a well-structured practice session. The day’s activities encompassed fielding practice, open-net batting and bowling sessions, warm-down exercises, and a concise team meeting.

Prior to the event, the Kerala Team underwent an extensive coaching camp in Bangalore from February 1st to 7th. 8th Edition of All Kerala Cricket Tournament:

Despite the challenging circumstances, CABK successfully hosted the 8th Edition of the All Kerala Cricket Tournament in Ernakulam on March 27th, 2021. Kerala’s Blind Women’s Cricket team participated in the 3rd edition of the national T-20 cricket tournament in Bangalore. Their journey commenced on January 7th, 2023, as Kerala’s 14-member squad embarked on a train to Bangalore. The dedication and hard work invested by the team bore fruit, as they achieved an impressive milestone – clinching two victories. This marked a significant accomplishment, especially considering their debut in a national tournament. 5th Edition of Nagesh Trophy Cricket Tournament:

Kerala’s men’s team embarked on an exciting journey to take part in the 5th edition of the Nagesh Cricket Tournament for the Blind, held in Chennai. Despite facing challenges during the selection process, the 14-member squad was finalized, with a notable inclusion being Binish AV’s comeback. The team’s performance showcased their potential, as they secured victories in two out of four league matches. Although they didn’t progress to the super eight stage, their efforts resonated with promise and determination.

Acknowledging the latent talent in women’s blind cricket, CABK took pride in sending two players, Sandra Davis and Jamsheela, to the national selection camp held in Bhopal.
